Obituary of Marian E. Pierce

Marian E. Pierce, 94, passed away Thursday July 16, at Cortland Care Center . She was born April 23, 1915 in Carbondale PA , the daughter of the late James and Anna Pascoe. She was a longtime resident of Cortland. Marian retired from Cortland Line Co. after many years. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, walking, shopping, collecting antiques and dolls. She also enjoyed going to auctions. Marian is survived by her daughter Carol LaVigne of Cortland daughter-in-law Kaaren Pierce of Cortland, grandchildren Andrew Pierce, Sandra Phillips, Steven and Michael LaVigne, 7 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Marian's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Cortland Care Center for the excellent care they provided. She was predeceased by her son William Pierce and granddaughter Rebecca Bombard. A graveside service will be held 11 am Friday July 31, at Cortland Rural Cemetery. Our young children loved to visit her in her upstairs appartment next door. She often made pop corn for them and shared her dolls with our girls. She was like a grandmother to them. She was a jewel and will be fondly remembered always. Mr and Mrs joseph Quinlan I am with the group that goes to the Care Center to sing once a month. We all loved Marian, and there was a face missing yesterday in the group of residents. She always knew the songs, especially the mystery tune. She was a sweet lady and will be missed.
