Emmett E. Howard, 89, of 26 Samson St.. Cortland passed away Tuesday June 30 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was born April 30, 1920 in Homer, NY the son of the late Orlis and Elsie Berean Howard.Emmett has been a long time resident of the area. He attended Fabius High School, before graduating from Lafayette High School. He then went onto serve with the Army Air Corp. in WWII. Emmett retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad after many years of service.. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church and also attended Faith Baptist Church. Emmett's pastimes included working with wood and metal, an avid bird watcher, watching and playing baseball, and loved trains and the railroad. He also played the harmonica and accordion. Emmett is survived by his son Kris (Barbara) Larsen of Cortland, daughter Lisa (Brian) Florio of Moravia, sisters Ruth Ackley of Nedrow, Florence Bovee of Canastota, 2 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren., several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Howard in 2002, sisters Mary Walburger, Virginia Dutton, Elsie Edwards, brothers Kenneth and Erwin Howard. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Monday July 6 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland with Rev. Bruce Buchanan officiating, Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call 12-2 pm prior at the funeral home. Contributions in Emmett's name may be directed to the Faith Baptist Church 1731 Rt. 13 Cortland or Berean Bible Church 726 State Rt. 13, Cortland.
