Arlene V. Stevens, 94 of the Elizabeth Brewster House in Homer, passed away Monday June 8 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 25, 1914 in Italy, the daughter of late Anthony and Theresa Scarano. Arlene has been a longtime Cortland Resident. She and her husband James were part original owners of The Tavern. She worked at the Community Restaurant for many years, before working at SUNY Cortland in the Cafeteria, where she retired from. She was an avid golfer and bowler. Arlene was a member of Willowbrook Golf Course for over 50 years, where she was a past club champion. She was the first of her sex to shoot a hole in one at Elm Tree Golf Course. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Arlene was predeceased by her husband James, brothers Patsy and Michael Scarano. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday June 11 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland with Rev. Cathy Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Cortland Rural Cemetery. A calling hour will be held 10-11 am prior to the service. Contributions in Arlenes name may be directed to the Elizabeth Brewster House, 41 S Main St., Homer, NY 13077.
