Ethel J. Lyon, 88, formerly of Mill Stream Court, Moravia passed away June 6, 2009 at the Cortland Care Center surrounded by family. Mrs. Lyon was born June 6, 1921 in Aurora, NY the daughter of the late Lloyd D. and Julia Munger Webster.
Mrs. Lyon was a graduate of Cortland High School. She retired from Smith Corona in Groton in 1982 after more than 30 years employment. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Ethel was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family.
Mrs. Lyon is survived by four sons; Gary (Kathy) of Cortland, Ronald (Kathie) of Moravia, Perry (Michelle) of Moravia and Ray (Nancy) of Latham, NY. Three daughters; Linda Stearns of Cortland, Sue (Richard) Burhans of Moravia and Denise (RJ) Powers of Auburn. A cousin, Sidney(Norma) Saxton of Erie, PA, two sisters-in-law; Audrey Jean Lyon and Daisy Lyon. Thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lyon was predeceased by her husband Raymond C. Lyon in 1999.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Homer First United Methodist Church, Homer. Interment will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Moravia. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday 4:00-7:00 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland. Type your condolence here... I knew Ethel from Joint Venture swim class at the YWCA. She was a lot of fun to be around. Always in good spirits and always laughing. I will miss her, and her funny antics in trying to use the noodle in the pool. May she rest in peace Nancy Nivison
