Ernest Jebbett, Jr., of Cortland, passed away at the Groton Nursing Facility, Groton, on Thursday, November 21st, 2013.
The son of Ernest and Mabel Wain Jebbett, Sr., he lived most of his 93 years on the farm where he was born. He married Hazel Williams of Ridgewood, New Jersey, in 1946 and owned the family dairy farm until 1998, remaining active on the farm until the age of 80. He and Hazel enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit many places across the United States and around the world until her death in 2005. Due to failing health Ernest became a resident of the Groton Facility in January of this year.
Ernest is survived by his sister, Alice Gallinger of Auburn; his four children, Susan McCurley (Raymond) of New Castle, Pennsylvania, Christine Orlando (Michael) of Whitsett, North Carolina, Duane Jebbett (Kathleen) of Findlay, Ohio, and Jeffrey Jebbett (Anita) of Cortland; his grandchildren Keri Jebbett Taylor (Justin) of Carmel, Indiana, Michael Orlando (Dana) of Lansing, Nathan Jebbett (Trista Riegert) of Burlington, Vermont, and Zachary Jebbett (Kelly) of Cortland; and three great-grandchildren, Karter and Kyle Taylor and Connor Orlando.
Ernest was predeceased by his brothers, Albert Jebbett and T. Stanley Jebbett, and his sisters, Edith Barnes and Ida Manning.
A life-long dairy farmer, Ernest Jebbett was also active on the Cortland County Junior Fair Board, as a committeeman at the former Cortland Agway Store, and as a member of the Cortland Kiwanis Club. Ernest will always be remembered for his willingness to help his neighbors, friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27th, at the Groton City United Church of Christ, located at 47 Groton City Road, with a luncheon to follow at the Church. Calling hours will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Groton City UCC, c/o Hurbert Jacobs, 149 Champlin Road, Groton, or the Cortland SPCA, 879 McLean Road, Cortland, or a charity of oneâs choice.
