Franklin L. Paro, 89, of McGraw, NY passed away on Mon., April 29, 2013. He was born on Nov. 26, 1923 in Cranberry Lake, NY to Ezeb and Lissie Paro. He was one of eleven children.He heroically served in WWII from Jan. 1943 to Nov. 1945 in the 803rd Battalion Tank Destroyer Unit and was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars along with other medals for his valor and courageous service. He vividly recalled the trip across the Atlantic Ocean on the famous luxury ship, The Queen Mary, which was converted to a troop transporter carrying approximately 15,000 troops.Frank was employed for several years with Armstrong Ford, Brockway Motor Trucks and the last 12 years with the McGraw School Bus Garage. He was a die-hard auto mechanic who could fix and make anything run. He enjoyed hunting, antique automobiles and putting jig saw puzzles together.Surviving are two children Wayne (Diane) Paro of Binghamton, NY and Francine (Robert) Mudge of Groton, NY; grandchildren Matthew and Kimberly Mudge and Adam and Shannon Paro whom he loved very much; four brothers Keith, Darwin, Harley and Perry Paro; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be dearly missed by all. He was predeceased by two wives, Betty (Petrie) Paro married 48 years and Mary (Hartnett) Paro married 12 years.The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 3 at the Wright Beard Funeral Home on 9 Lincoln Ave. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 4 with interment at the Glenwood Cemetery in Homer.

Franklin and I became friends in the fall of 1970, on my first hunting trip to his hunting camp. We have been friends & hunting partners ever since. My heart go's out to his family,as I know what you feel. He was a great person, always willing to help anyone. He thought highly of his family, especial his brothers,his daughter,& son, and his grandchildren. God be with you at this time of your lose & guide you in the day ahead. Eldon P. Shaw

Francine and Wayne - I noted the passing of your dad in yesterday's paper and wanted you to know how much respect I had for him. when Francine and I were dating he kept my 1958 Corvette fixed and running and was always there to help at the expense of his own projects.
