Obituary of Jack C. Petrie

Dr. Jack Petrie, 88, of Cortland, passed away October 21, 2013 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center Nursing Facility. He was born October 12, 1925 in Sherrill, NY, the son of the late E. Merrill and Marie Smith Petrie. Dr. Petrie was a graduate of Canastota High School, Oswego State, and received his P.H.D from Columbia University, NY, in education. Professor Petrie had been with SUNY Cortland for 31 years retiring in 1988. Dr. Petrie was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church, Homer. He enjoyed hiking, swimming, and tending to his flower gardens. He also travelled with his wife, and together shared many memorable trips together especially Europe. He is survived by his wife of 51 yrs. Shirley Petrie of Cortland, his sons Gene (Karen) Petrie of East Syracuse, Peter (Kimberly) Petrie of Abbottstown, PA, his brother Father Roderic Petrie of St. Petersburg Fl., his sister Patricia Younglove of Wolcott NY, his grandchildren Jacquleine, Gen e, Jessica, Victoria, Luke, and Nicholas, along with nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday at St. Margaret's Church, Homer NY, with Dr. Petrie's brother, Father Roderic Petrie, and Father Paul Alciati officiating. Burial will be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota NY. Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. To offer online condolences visit www.wright-beard.com
