EVERETT LEE GUTCHESS
Everett Lee Gutchess, 82, of 1005 Parker Street, Marathon, NY, went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2013. He passed away at the Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility and leaves behind his family and wife, Phoebe Forshee. Everett fought a long battle with Parkinsons disease.
Everett was born at his childhood home on Parker Street in Lapeer, NY, on May 25, 1930, the son of the late Leslie and Bessie (Underwood) Gutchess. He wed Joyce Robinson (the girl next door) in 1950. Everett was a loving father to his six children: Linda (Leroy) Marsh of Virgil, Sharon (Rick) Bleck of Dryden, Randy (Debra) Gutchess of Lapeer, Robbie (Lisa) Gutchess of Lapeer, and twins Lisa (Rich) Smith of Shanghai, China and Lori (Ed) Lincoln of Lapeer.
Everett wed Phoebe in 2008, and is survived by his eight step-children: Carolyn (Nick) Christy, Marilyn (Russ) Negus, Linda (Whip) Hammond, Glenn (Sally) Forshee, Patricia Moll, Joan Forshee, Jean (Russ) Tillotson and Lisa (Martin) Gerschner.
He was predeceased by his first wife Joyce in 2005, his daughter Lori Lincoln in 2000 and brothers Howard and Raymond Gutchess.
He had 12 grandchildren, Alicia and Travis Bleck, LeslieAnn (Gutchess) Regan, Katie (Gutchess) Kenyon, Tim Marsh, Dawn (Marsh) Carlson, joshua and Ashley Lincoln, twins David and Daniel Lincoln, and Brandon and Bradley Smith. He was a great-grandfather to Jordan and Braden Marsh, Noah Carlson and Owen Regan.
Everett is survived by his brother the Rev. George Gutchess of Lapeer, twin sisters Rev. Marlea Gutchess of York, PA and Dorthea (Tom) Honour of Inverness, FL, Janice (Klaron) Smith of Cortland, sisters-in-law Cheryl Gutchess of Cortland and Alice Gutchess of Lapeer. Everett enjoyed his two brothers-in-law Raymond Bud Robinson of Cayuga and Larry (Marge) Robinson of Groton.
Everett retired from UPS (United Parcel Service) in 1988, and spent his leisure time repairing lawn equipment and raising beef cattle. Everett was a good mechanic and he often puttered in his garage with mechanical items. During the 1990s, Everett served as the Supervisor for the Town of Lapeer.
Everett was a devoted Christian and he supported the First Christian Church of Lapeer for the majority of his life. He served as a deacon, a trustee and a Sunday school teacher.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 15, from 5-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland.
Those who would like to share in the celebration of Everetts life are asked to join his family at the First Christian Church of Lapeer on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Archie Smith will be officiating. There will be a fellowship meal at the Church on Parker Street following the service.
Funeral arrangements are through the Wright-Beard Funeral Home in Cortland.

So glad I got to meet and know Everett! He was a good man and a handsome man too! I am thankful for the happiness he gave to my Mom...it was nice to see my mom so happy and laughing too. She will miss him so much... but I am happy for the time they had together...Thanks Everett for showing all of us that love can happen at any time...at any age...Hugs, Joan
