Retired Lieutenant Lisle T. Hines of the Cortland paid firefighters passed away February 24, 2013 in the Cortland Regional Medical Nursing Facility at the age of 92. Lisle, son of the late Harold and Waneita Lockwood Hines was born August 28, 1920 and was a life long resident of Cortland.
Lisle served his country with the US Navy during WWII and was a member of the Sampson WWII Navy group. While serving as a torpedo man in the Pacific Campaign on the USS Tinsman (DE589) he was awarded 2 Bronze stars.
Lisle served the City of Cortland for over 25 years and was a member of the Professional Fighters Association. He was proprietor of Hines Electronics, enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a 40 yr member of the Amateur Radio League, The Skyline Radio Club, and the NRA.
Lisle is survived by his daughter Lorain (Gary) Austin of Michigan, his grandchildren: Bobbie Jo Nelson and Anna Leonard of Salisbury Maryland, four great grandchildren: Cameron, Justin, Anthony and Daryl, nephews: Alan Higgins of Georgia, Barry (Yvonne) Higgins of Cortland and Harold (Sandra) Higgins of South Dakota. In additions to his parents Lisle was predeceased by his sister: Marian Higgins.
Funeral Services will be held at11:00am Saturday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave. Spring interment will be held in the Cortland Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 10:00am €“ 11:00am prior to the service. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Lisles name is asked to consider The Cortland Regional Medical Center Adult Day Care Center, 134 Homer Ave, Cortland, NY 13045.
