Obituary of Gary C Hoellerer

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary C. Hoellerer, 78, of Cortlandville, went on to his heavenly Father's house on October 10, 2013, from Crown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, after an extended illness. He was born on Staten Island to Elsie Bausch and Charles A. G. Hoellerer. He grew up in Willet, N.Y., attended the Willet Methodist Church, and graduated from Cincinnatus Central School. A dairy farmer for most of his life, Gary started on a rented farm in Willet, then, in partnership with his brother Lee, owned and operated a farm in Freetown for 18 years. The operation moved to Scipio Center, N.Y. where the family farmed until both brothers retired. Gary and his wife moved to Cortland, where he worked as a product loader for Schwans' Foods until his complete retirement in 2000. Gary served on the advisory boards of the Farmer's Home Administration and Eastern Artificial Insemination Coop and was a member of the Marathon Central School Board of Education. He enjoyed softball, fishing, hunting (especially whitetails and turkey), followed Syracuse University basketball, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was devoted to his family and the well-being of each member was his top priority. Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janis Closson Hoellerer, his brother, Lee (Barbara) Hoellerer of Moravia; three daughters, Juliene Ray and Sheila (James) Peck of Cortland, and Suzanne (Jack) Kapcha of Union Springs; five grandchildren, Shevaune and Nolan Ray, Laura (Brian) Anderson, Rachel (James) Wallace, and Rebecca (Stefan) Somers; two great-grandchildren, Teagan Minor and (arriving mid-November) Micah Wallace. Also surviving are nephews Carl Hoellerer, Nathan (Terri) Hoellerer, nieces Ellen (Mark) Peet and Patricia (John) Nelson, two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in law and their families. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Cortland First United Methodist Church, 734 State Route 222, Cortland, NY at 3:00 in the afternoon, with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will be in Willet at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Willet Burial Association, c/o Carol Crane, PO Box 156, Willet, NY 13863.
