Ethan Pace, 98 of Cortland passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Married to his beloved wife Nancy for over 63 years they were able to share their long life and last hours together. Ethan was born February 23, 1914 in Sgurgola, Italy. He immigrated to America with his mother on February 20, 1920 to join his father in Cortland. As a young man he worked in Saratoga Springs, Gloversville and Utica, NY. He proudly served with the US Army as a Tech Sergeant in the 601st Malaria Detachment of the 7th Division of the Pacific Theater Operations from 1942-1946. After his service he returned to Cortland to join his family in business at Doms Grill. He worked there with his parents and brothers forming lasting friendships with his patrons. In 1969 the business grew and the family expanded to create the well-known and respected Paces Restaurant. After his retirement he continued to work for many years at the Groton Avenue Liquor Store. A communicant of St. Anthonys Church, Ethan was a life member of the VFW, Moose Club and Elks Lodge. An avid sports fan, he formed a lifelong love for the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He enjoyed golf, watching sporting events and playing cards with friends. He found pleasure while spending time with his wife and brother at the Cortland Senior Center. Family and friends were a very important part of his life. He cherished the time he was able to spend with them and share his stories about his Italian heritage. He is survived by 4 generations of family that include his children Barbara (joseph) MacFarland of Saratoga Springs, Deborah (Alex) Vecchio of Camillus and Robert (Julie Trivisonno) Pace of Cortland, brother Dominick Pace and sister in law Lena Pace both of Cortland, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his Brother Anthony Pace and sister in law Betty Pace of Cortland. The family will receive friends at Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at St. Anthonys Church 50 Pomeroy St. Cortland. Interment will be at St. Marys Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Ethans name may be directed to the Cortland County Area Agency on Aging 60 Central Ave. Cortland, NY 13045. The family would like to extend special recognition to Nina Pascucci, Luis Rondon, Heather Donovan, and to the staff at Cortland Park Nursing and Rehab Center, Cortland Regional Medical Center and Home Care of Cortland County for the extraordinary care you provided and wonderful friendship you formed with our father.
Ethan was followed in death by his wife of 63 years Nancy on January 12, 2013.
