Donald F. Baird, 82, of Cortland NY, completed his life on earth January 6, 2013 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was born October 8, 1930 in Groton NY, son of the late Charles and Eva Terpening Baird.
Donald was a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Cortland High School. He served with the U.S. Army reserves for eight years being honorably discharged in 1958. Donald was employed at Edlund Machines then with Smith Corona Corp. where he retired after 37 years. His memberships included the Second Congregational Church of Cortland, First United Methodist Church of Cortland, Cortland Sr. Citizens, where he was a member of the billiard team, and RSVP. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and watching NASCAR. His family will cherish his memory as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Anne Strom Baird of Cortland, his son Rick (Gail) Baird of Chesapeake VA, his daughters Marcy (Michael) Klos of Utah, Vicky (Timothy) Tomlinson of Cortland, his sisters Sylvia Watts of Syracuse, Virginia (Gary) Alexander of Alaska, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces & nephews, step children Ronda (Randy) Austin of Cortland, Mark (Michele) Strom of Freeville, four step grandchildren, one step great grandchild.
Donald was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Randall Baird in 2006.
Calling hours will be Friday 12-1:45 pm with a memorial service to begin 2 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY 13045. Spring burial will be at the Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden NY.
