Obituary of Victor C. Loomis

Victor C. Loomis Sr., 83, of Freeville passed away on December 6, 2013 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. Victor was born in Fabius on February 10, 1930 to the late Harold and Laura (Harris) Loomis.
Mr. Loomis attended Fabius School. After his Fatherâs unexpected death at a young age Vic left school and began working to help support his Mother and siblings. Later in life he started working for Thompson Boats on Elm Street in Cortland and later moved to the Corsair building on Route 11 which later became Chris Craft. He advanced from a production worker to the assistant plant manager for Chris Craft during his many years working in the boating industry. After Chris Craft moved from Cortland Vic was employed by Moravia Industries and Cortland Bulk prior to accepting a job with ETL in 1977. He retired in 1995 from ETL (today known as Intertek). Vic was a past trustee on the board for the Church of the Redeemer (Memorial Baptist). In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing at Black Lake where he had his family camp.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his former wife Clara Gilbert Loomis, daughter Barbara Loomis Stith, his Sisters Doris Loomis Boyden, Iris Loomis Miller, Brother Carl Loomis and Step-daughter Kathleen Gilbert Loomis.
Victor is survived by his wife Janette Thomson Gilbert Loomis of 15 years, his son Victor (Kelly) Loomis of Cortland, Step Children Colleen (Eugene) Velten of McLean, Gordon Gilbert of Freeville, five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sisters Arlene, Frieda, Patty, Winnie, Marlene, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on 12/14/2013 from 11AM to 12PM at the Wright- Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland NY with a service to follow. Family and friends are invited to get together at the Church of the Redeemer (Memorial Baptist) on Thompkins Street, Cortland in remembrance of Vic.
