John Albert Stark, Jr. died peacefully on December 9, 2013 in Ithaca, NY, age 81, due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. John was born in Rochester, NY in 1932, the son of Thalia G. Clement and John Albert Stark, Sr. He grew up in Irondequoit, NY and attended Irondequoit High School. While at Bucknell University in Lewisburg PA, class of 1954, he met his future wife, Sondra Wells Harrington. A chemical engineer, John worked for Fasson Products in Painesville OH, and the Drilling Specialties Division of Phillips Petroleum in Conroe TX. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s at Fort Detrick, MD. He is predeceased in death by his parents and his son Douglas John Stark. In addition to Sondra, his wife of 59 years, he is survived by daughter Sharyl Stark Overhiser (Robert), daughter Pamela Harrington Stark, granddaughter Sarah Wells Overhiser, grandson George John Overhiser, sister Beverly Stark Eddy, nieces and nephews, and a loving extended family. John lived all over the United States, at various times calling Frederick MD, Ashtabula OH, Conroe TX, Southport NC, and Cortland NY home. John played an excellent game of golf, and had a 10 handicap. He also loved to monitor his investments, and travel, seeing much of the US and the world. Funeral services will take place on December 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church in Cortland NY, with interment at Cortland Rural Cemetery in Cortland.
