I am honoured to have known Arden through my role as subject area manager at the International Baccalaureate and I worked closely with him for a short time while he was Chief Examiner. His calm and constructive approach at meetings is something that I will continue to remember but later, once his term as CE was complete, I would exchange phone calls with him from time to time as he continued to lead examiners for us. In fact, Arden was a team leader in chemistry right up to May 2012. During those conversations I was touched by his caring nature and the personal interest he took in me, our shared peers and the IB chemistry course despite his own health challenges. The IB owes a debt of gratitude to many of our examiners who, like Arden, have made a massive personal contribution to the design of our curricula but also, for what amounts to a lifetime of service to maintaining standards and fairness for students through their dedication to marking. I will remember Arden fondly.

I was saddened to hear that Arden had passed away. For a number of years I was Subject Area Manager responsible for chemistry at the IB. It was in this capacity that I had the pleasure of working with Arden in many meetings. He always displayed enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism, and was much respected by his colleagues. I enjoyed the time I spent with Arden - a true gentlemen. I will remember him fondly.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Arden. I first met Arden a number of years ago where he served as Chief Examiner in Chemistry for the International Baccalaureate for a number of years. Arden made an enormous and long-lasting significant contribution to international chemical education through his work with the IB. I will always remember him for the collegial, professional and balanced approach he brought to meetings. Arden had a passion for both the AP programme and the IB Diploma programme. Arden was one of the first US academics to embrace the IB programme in North America amongst the University community, through his contributions at workshops, his involvement in curriculum design and examination assessment. He will be greatly missed by the wider chemistry community at University faculty level and amongst high-school Chemistry colleagues.

It saddens me that Dr. Zipp has left us, but I am forever grateful to have been one of his students. A brilliant man in every sense of the word, who made engaging, entertaining, informative lectures. Your words live on with all of us Dr. Zipp.

"Ardie" and I go all the way back to kindergarten so it's a sad day for me and other members of Dolgeville Central High School, class of '56. We were good friends, classmates and basketball and baseball teammates. In addition, we had a Cortland connection - I'm a graduate and he was a faculty member. Many of my professors at Cortland spoke very highly of Ardie when I saw them at reunions. On top of all that, he was a very nice guy. I feel a loss and I will miss him.

A colleague passed along the sad news--Arden was a year behind me at DCS--like me a horn player, valedictorian, and chose chemistry as a career. We intersected a few times in our university careers so I was aware of his many accomplishments. His was an exceptional contribution to the field and he lives on in his students and colleagues. May he rest in peace.

Dear Kathy, Alaina, and Allyson,
They say that time heals, and I hope as the days and weeks turn into months and years, your burden of grief will be diminished by warm memories of a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to so many. He was an inspiration.
With my sympathy,
Rena
