Liz Croop, (70), of Cortland, NY passed away on August 17, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved sister, mother, grandmother, wife, friend, and servant, Liz was the youngest of four children €“ born Elizabeth Grace Munson on February 27, 1939 in Cortland, NY to Clair William and Joy Elora Kling Munson.
Liz was raised in Cortland and loved to travel the world with her brother, Bill or anyone else that she could get to go with her. She loved spending time with friends and family and marveled at the number of descendants that she and her first husband had.
Liz is predeceased by both parents, sister Edna, brother Victor, two ex-husbands, Harlan O. Pealo (1979) and Ronald C. Smith (2008), and husband and soul mate George C. Croop (2007). She is survived by her brother Bill (Sue) Munson, of Oregon, daughters Sue Pealo of Plant City, FL, Sally (Jeff) Iacovelli of Ithaca, NY, Joan Peak of Utica, NY, and Katy (Tommy) Prince of Brooktondale, NY; five step-children, Chris (Sue) Smith, Jim (Janis) Croop, Steve (Collette) Croop, Sheryl (John) Monsour, and Carolyn Croop; 11 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, special niece, Joy (Kenny) Stone, special cousin Al (Beverly) Munson, and too many friends to count.
Liz was never a person to sit around and do nothing. As a young mother her favorite saying was, Get in the car. and as a mature adult she would say, Either it will or it wont and afterwards well know whether it did or it didnt. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Calling hours will be Friday, August 21, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 am at Christ Presbyterian Church on Tompkins St. Cortland, NY, officiated by Rev. Dear family of Liz: I have known Liz since 1985 or 1986. We did many things together. She introduced me to "her boys" in prisons, and hooked me on going into prisons on a regular basis as well. She was always available to have a cup of coffee and chat. She never did sit still very well, and getting into the car was a constant with her. Her practical way of looking at life was a very clear message to me: "I've got much better things to do today!" I respected, admired and loved her, and will miss her voice and presence in my life. Thank God she is now with Jesus! She'll probably drive him nuts with her need to keep so busy! *smile* God Bless!
Sally & Family, So sorry to hear about your Mom. Please know we are thinking about you,and are here if we can do anything..
