Obituary of Thomas E. Quinlan

Thomas Edward Quinlan, 85, of Homer NY, passed away June 7, 2010. He was born April 8, 1925 at home in Truxton NY , the son of the late Roger and Cecilia OConnell Quinlan.
Tom was raised on the family farm on Vesper Hill. He attended school in Tully, Homer, and graduated from St. Marys High School in 1942. Following graduation, Tom enlisted with the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served aboard the Destroyer/Escort USS Walter Brown in the Atlantic and the Attack/Transport USS Sidonia in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After completing service to his country, Tom attended the NYS Rangers School, School of Forestry graduating in 1949. Later that year he went onto to marry Grace Jessie Daily. They lived in Elmira and Amsterdam NY, prior to moving to Homer in 1969 where they have since lived. Tom worked for over 50 years with Overhead Door Co. retiring in 2000. He had since still worked part time for the company.
Tom was a communicant of St. Marys Church of Cortland and a past member of the Homer American Legion. He enjoyed playing in various senior leagues that included basketball, softball, and volleyball.
He is survived by his wife of 61 yrs. Grace Jessie Quinlan of Homer NY, daughter Lesley (William Schlimbach) Quinlan of Summit NJ, son Peter (Susanne) Quinlan of Loganville GA, grandchildren Whitney, Hilary, Roger, Emily, John, and Sarah, brother Francis Quinlan of Cortland, sister in law Betty Fish of Cincinnatus, many nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Elizabeth Kenney, Richard Zeke Quinlan, John Quinlan, and Roger Quinlan.
Calling hours are Thursday 5-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10 am at St. Marys Church of Cortland. Burial will follow at the St. Marys Cemetery, Cortland.
