Obituary of Anna Forcucci

Anna Forcucci 79 passed away peacefully on November 26, 2012 at Cortland Park Nursing Center.
She was a lifetime resident of Cortland and the daughter of joseph and Louise Poerio who immigrated to the United States from Castlefore Italy.
Anna graduated from St Marys School in 1951 as valedictorian of her class and then attended LeMoyne College as a history major graduating with the highest honors, a summa cum laude degree in 1955.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Sam Forcucci and sons Jay of South Carolina his wife Michelle, and grandchildren Jessica, Christopher, Courtney and Alexandra, joseph of Homer, and David of Michigan and his wife Kelly and granddaughters Paige, and Sarah. She is also survived by her brother joseph of Cortland and his wife Victoria, a nephew and nieces and several nieces, nephews, and cousins and second cousins.
Anna worked as a credit manager at Montgomery Ward prior to her marriage, Later she established the volunteer department at the hospital and was its director for 12 years. She then went on to become the executive director of the hospital foundation retiring in 1995.
Anna was always dedicated to community service; she participated in the program to assist Italian immigrant children in making their transition to American schools
She taught English and history to inmates at the Cortland County Jail. She was also the director of religious education at St. Anthonys Church Anna was a longtime member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, a charter member if the Cortland County Association for Retarded Children and charter member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Cortland Rotary Breakfast Club.
She was member of St. Anthonys Altar, Society, the Fortnightly Club, Church Woman United, the Elizabeth Brewster House Board and the Murray Center Board.
Anna received several awards during her lifetime among them were the La Sertoma Woman of the Year the Salvation Army Others Award and the Zonta Club Woman of Achievement award.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at St. Anthonys Church 50 Pomeroy St. Cortland with Fr. Lucian Urbaniak officiating. Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Annas name my be directed to St Anthonys Church, the Cortland Hospital Foundation or the NYS Alzheimers Association

My sincerest condolences go out to the Forcucci family. The first time I met Anna and her husband Sam was when they came to visit their son Joey, the "Cuch", at his home. The love shown was extraordinary and, while it has been many years, I still think of Mr. & Mrs Forcucci and their family. My thoughts and prayers to all of you.
