Doris M. McCaskill, 84, of Cortland, NY passed away Tuesday April 24, 2012 at St. josephs Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
She was born January 5, 1928 in Cortland to Walter and Gertrude Lang Curtis.
Doris graduated from Virgil Central High School in 1946 and went on to graduate from the Cortland Business Institute. She then began her career in the credit department at Montgomery Ward. This is where she met her husband Woody McCaskill and they were married on October 15, 1949. She then stayed home to raise her five children.
Doris was a devoted Mother and Grandmother who loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved attending all her Grandchildrens many activities, celebrating holidays and special occasions, and hanging out with her special friends The Gang. The Cortland Senior Center was a big enjoyment to her where she would go to play cards, Wii bowling, bingo and a variety of other activities. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children Connie (Tom) Ruane, S. Michael McCaskill, David (Beth) McCaskill, Kevin McCaskill, Heather McCaskill, all of Cortland and Barbara (Angelo) DeTomaso of Auburn; grandchildren Michael and Theresa Ruane, Shane and Sam McCaskill, Joey McCaskill and one great-granddaughter,and many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 38 years, Woody McCaskill; sister Jean Moran and granddaughter Jaime McCaskill.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm., Thursday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. A service at the funeral home will be at 10:30am Friday. Contributions in memory of Doris can be made to the Cortland Senior Center or a charity of your choice.
