Gladys Goddard Stearns, 93, of Cortland NY, passed away August 5, 2012 with family by her side. Gladys was a longtime resident of Cortland. She was employed at Cortland High School as a teachers aide and also worked at Home Dairy. Gladys enjoyed traveling, tending to her flowers, painting, and baking cakes for her family and friends weddings. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Homer and Four Score. She is survived by her sons Jack (Stacy) Goddard of Homosassa Fl., Terry (Rita) Goddard of Homer NY, step children Richard (Amy) Stearns of Naperville Ill., Connie (Lewis) Manwarren of South Plymouth NY, her brother Charles (Gerry) VerStraete of Phelps NY, her sister Louise Myles of Geneva NY, sister in law Ann Stearns of Syracuse NY, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, 7 step great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Gladys was predeceased by her first husband Roy Goddard in 1952, second husband Ralph Stearns in 1990, her sister Marie Allen, and her grandson Kevil L. Goddard. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 am at the First United Methodist Church of Homer with the Rev. Suzanne Block presiding. Burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Homer NY.
