James "Moot" Packard, 72, of Cortland passed away January 8, 2014 at University Hospital. He was born December 14, 1941 in Cortland the son of the late Richard and Kathryn Welch Packard. Moot was a lifelong resident of Cortland graduating from Cortland High School in 1959. He then went on to serve with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Moot had worked at Pall Trinity until 1991 until his health prevented him from working. He was a member of the Cortland DAV and volunteered at the Cortland Care Center. Moot enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting in his younger years. He is survived by his daughter and son in law Cheryl and Kevin Potter of Cortland, granddaughter Bailey Potter, his brother Thomas (Geraldine) Packard of Chittenengo, his sisters Sandra Reakes of Cortland, Gwendolyn Packard of Cortland, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Richard Packard Jr., and his sister Norma Packard Bowker. Calling hours will be Sunday 1-4 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Funeral services will be Monday 11 am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors.
