Lavonia B. French , 94 of North Syracuse and formerly of Cortland, NY passed away at her residence (The Malta House) on April 4, 2014. She was born in Cortland, NY on May 5, 1919. She graduated from Cortland High School in 1938.
She spent her early years raising her four children in Cortland along with her husband Donald. After her husband's death, she spent many years residing in a cottage at Melody Lake in Willet, NY. Mrs. French was the president of the Melody Lake Assoc. for many years. She is a past member of the United Community Church in Cortland, Willet Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 716 in Marathon, NY.
Mrs. French has spent the past several years residing in the North Syracuse area where she moved to be closer to her daughter Donna and her grandchildren. She belonged to Pace of CNY and was a steady participant in their activities at the Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughter Donna L. (Michael) Collins of Pennellville, NY, a son James of Cortland, NY, several nieces and nephews and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1968, her son John of Princeton, KY, her daughter Vonnie of Cortland, NY, her brothers John and Clarence and her sister Della Allcock.
There will be no calling hours.
