Karen Marie Middleton, 63, of Cortland NY, passed away April 19, 2014 at home with family by her side. She was born February 9, 1951 in Syracuse the daughter of the late George and Margaret Koslowski Beagan. Karen graduated from LeMoyne College with her teaching degree, then taught at East Syracuse-Minoa briefly. She then was employed at Gallinger Real Estate, the U.S. Postal Service located on Taft Rd while living in Syracuse. She then came to the Cortland area and was employed part-time and volunteered at the Cortland YMCA. Karen was active with Cub Scout's, the Barry School PTA, and many other school committee's. She enjoyed her "Girls Night Out" in Syracuse with her lifelong friends. Her family and friends will cherish her memory as a humble, loving, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 40 yrs. Andrew Middleton of Cortland, her sons Thomas of Rochester, Brian and Michael of Cortland, her grandchildren Ewan and Lonan Middleton, her brother Tim (Camie) Beagan of Colorado, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother George Beagan. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Funeral services will be held Friday 10 am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Burial will be later at the Constantia Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cortland Youth Bureau, 35 Port Watson St., Cortland NY, 13045, or Unity Acres, PO Box 153, Orwell NY, 13426.
