Pauline M. Robbins, 92, of Cortland, NY, East Homer and DeRuyter Lake passed away on Wednesday evening May 21, 2014 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Pauline was born on April 8, 1922 in Cortland. She was the daughter of the late Dominico and Coronata (Laura) Romano Calerio.
Pauline grew up in Cortland, then moved to Binghamton to attend sewing school. Upon graduation she moved to Bainbridge and secured employment at both the Scintila Airplane Factory in Sidney, NY and a local restaurant. While working at the restaurant Pauline met her future husband of 69 years, Alton Robbins of Truxton. In addition to the factory and restaurant, Pauline also worked at the Cortland Corset and Brockway Motors and was a seamstress for many years.
Pauline was extremely active in the community as a parishioner of St Anthony's church, and a member of the following clubs: Eagles, Moose, East Homer Grange, RSVP, Cortland quilters, and Bean Pickers. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and crafts. Pauline made costumes and assisted with set decorating for Shirley's dance studio. She volunteered as a Brownie Leader, competed in many bowling leagues, and danced at venues across the north east with the Seven Valley Whirlaways dance club. She cherished spending summers at her cottage on DeRuyter Lake with friends and family. Her family will cherish her memory as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Pauline is survived by her son Ronald (Jennifer) Robbins of Rochester, Christine (Jerry) Gillette of Freeville and Mary (Bill) Peck of Cortland. Grandchildren David Robbins, Kelly (Nate) Beckland, Patrick (Amanda) Gillette, Maureen Gillette and Joey Giamichael, Thomas Giamichel, Kristi Giamichael , Bryan Peck. Great grandchildren Davi Robbins, Emma and Patrick Gilllette.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Alton Robbins, daughter Linda, sisters Jennie Giamichael, Connie Burns, Molly Manaici, and Rose DeCenzo
Calling hours will be held Tuesday 4-7pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc, 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland, NY 13045.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 10am at St. Anthony's Church in Cortland and burial will follow at the St. Mary's cemetery in Cortland.
