Obituary of Antonio Giampaolo

Antonio “Tony” Giampaolo passed away Saturday, May 31 2014 at Cortland Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tony was born on February 6, 1940 in Sulmona, Italy. He served in the Italian Army, Alpini division for two years before graduating from an Art and Trade Institute in Italy learning the trade of cabinetmaking and carpentry.
Tony immigrated from Sulmona to Toronto, Canada and then to Cortland, New York in 1966. On January 7, 1967 he married the former Helen Cuozzo in Cortland, New York.
Tony was employed as a carpenter at Cortland Regional Medical Center for 28 years in addition to working his craft in his business, Tony’s Cabinet Shop, with John Daniels his business partner and friend for over 30 years.
He enjoyed working in his cabinet shop and also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his daughters. He was proud of his Italian heritage and had a fondness for all things “Italian”.
Tony is survived by his wife of 47 years Helen, two daughters Maria Giampaolo of Cortland and Rosanna Giampaolo of Syracuse, his sister Guiliana Ottaviani Giammarco of Sulmona, Italy and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Giuseppe Giampaolo and his mother Maria Domenica Burrasca.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Zareski presiding. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday evening from 5 – 7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland.
