George Chester Sturdevant 92, born February 4, 1922 in Maine NY, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 9, 2014 after a brief illness while living at the NYS Veterans Home, Oxford, NY. George was a long time resident of Cortland NY. He worked for Brewer- Titchener Corporation for over 40 years. He was also a World War II Army veteran serving in the Rainbow Division. Mr. Sturdevant married Gertrude Roney on July 1, 1949. After 62 years of marriage she predeceased him on September 24, 2011. George is survived by his three sons: Charles Sturdevant, Dean (Lori) Sturdevant and, Dale (Teresa) Sturdevant. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Jamie Sturdevant, Amber( Dale )Gerhart, Sarah (Edward) Burgess, Dale Sturdevant Jr, Jennifer (Terrence) Corson, Erin (Stacey ) Sturdevant, Allison (Robert) White, Deanna Sturdevant, Chase Sturdevant .and , 13 great grandchildren: Diamond, Emerald and Jade Sturdevant, Faith, Evie an Caleb Corson, Raiden Sturdevant, Peyton Roundy and Payge Romano, Ethan and Jayla White, Amelia and Sawyer Gerhart. Mr. Sturdevant was predeceased by his brother: Ward Sturdevant. He is survived by his sisters, Ada Wilson, Doris Vandeburg, Grace (Cleon) Potter and, Ann Wood. Funeral arrangements will be by Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Services will be held on June 28th 2014 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Kattellville Road, Binghamton, NY: Visitation at 10am, Funeral Service at 11am. Interment to follow at the McGraw Rural Cemetery, 1:30 pm..
