Obituary of Mary Hyde

Mary E. Hyde, 96, of Cortland, passed away July 5, 2014 at the Cortland Park and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 3, 1917 in Tully NY, the daughter of the late Leon and Margaret Mahar Rood. Mrs. Hyde was a longtime resident of the area. She was co-proprietor of the Hyde's Diner from 1946-1970 and Hyde's Salad 's from 1960-1975 with her late husband Harold. Her memberships included the United Presbyterian Church, Homer Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church, Cortland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Cortland Sr. Citizen's Club, along with various volunteer positions at the Cortland Hospital. She was also active in various bowling leagues in Cortland. She is survived by her son Harold "Butch" Hyde Jr. of Cortland, her daughters Juanita (Edgar) Fuller of Scott, Mary (Douglas) Varnum of Kirkville NY, her brothers Donald and Gordon Rood, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harold F. Hyde Sr., her brothers Francis Briggs, Leon Rood, Leonard Rood. Calling hours will be Thursday 5-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Funeral services will be held Friday 10 am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home with Rev. Mathew Smith officiating. A private burial will follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
