Obituary of Donald "Don" Wilcox

Donald "Don" Wilcox, 76, of Tully, passed away July 14, 2014 at the Francis House in Syracuse NY. He was born October 6, 1937 in Sayre PA, the son of the late Ellsworth and Alene Shedden Wilcox. After graduating high school from Alpena High School in Ark., he began his career as a Mechanical Designer and retired after 10 years from Thermopatch Inc., of Syracuse. Don and his family have resided in locally on his farm since 1977. He had been an active farmer until 1988 which he found very rewarding, not only working the land but working with family. Don had been a member of the Preble Congregational Church since 1979 and had served on the board of Deacon's. He is survived by his wife Pat Wilcox of Tully, his children Donald (Pamela) Wilcox Jr. of Fort Edward NY, Amy (Gregory) Poltorak of Rochester NY, Stephen (Kathleen) Davenport of Tully, Christine (Chris McGee) Wood of Capron VA, his grandchildren Stephen, Alex, Kahlan, Emma, Joshua, Margaret, Kate, Maryellen, and James, his great grandchildren Rebekka, Cameron, Kaleb, and a soon to be grandson, his brothers Thomas S. (Billie) Wilcox, Larry D. Wilcox, his sister Linda M., along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don was predeceased by his parents, along with his siblings Russell and Dianne. Calling hours will be Friday 10-11:45 am with a funeral service to begin 12 noon at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Burial will follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Preble Congregational Church, 1953 Preble Rd., Preble NY, 13141, or Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse NY, 13208.
