I am no longer living in Cortland, but during a brief visit last summer, I had heard my old and dear friend Billy was gravely ill.
Billy was one of a kind- he had a wisecrack for anyone and everything on Earth. I will always remember playing pitch with him at the Stadium Bar and being his roommate on the football trip to New England.
Rest in peace my friend.

It's been several years since I've seen Billy, but I was very saddened to hear of his passing. I had a lot of good conversation and laughs with Bill at the Stadium in the old days. He was there to welcome me home from Desert Storm and I'll never forget that. Rest in Peace Billy.

I am deeply saddened to hear that Dorr William Powers (aka Billy, Chief) a dear friend and long time acquaintance passed away on August 6, 2014 after a courageous crusade against cancer. At this time, along with his family and friends, we share a quiet sadness… a longing for one more day, one more word, one more laugh together, we were not ready to say goodbye, but we thank him so much for his life that gave us memories too wonderful to forget. Memories cherished in our hearts until it is our time.

Julie,
I am so sorry to learn of your Dad's passing. May the good memories help ease your sorrow at this sad and difficult time. Your Dad was highly thought of during his time as CSEA Union President. He truly cared about his fellow workers and it showed! My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Bill's Family and Loved Ones,
Lorraine and I extend our sincerest symapthy for your loss. Please know that Bill's passing is tragic for all of us who loved him. Beyond the frequent bluster and one-liners, there was always a caring heart and consideration for people, something he too often tried to hide - unsuccessfully for those who truly knew him. While there are many legndary stories that will forever hold Bill in our memories, Lorraine will always cherish his chivalrous salvation of their Senior Prom. As for me, our teenage years, our post-war shenanigans, and our laughter every time our paths crossed will remain a part of who - as lifelong friends - Bill and I were, have always been, and will forever remain. Again, please accept our condolences with the passing of The Chief. Lorraine and Gary Sharpe
