William Matijas, 85, of Homer passed away on September 6 at Crown Center of Nursing and Rehabilitation. William was born April 23, 1929 in New Hope, NY to the late John and Zuzzana Konkus Matijas.
Mr. Matijas was a longtime resident of the Homer area. William attended school in Moravia. He grew up working the family farm and purchased a small farm of his own to raise a family. After working on a farm for so long he decided to change to road construction which then led him to building trades. After retiring he was self-employed doing work around Skaneateles Lake. William has memberships in the Laborers Local Union #785, Glen Haven Historical Society and Scott United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, traveling, New York Yankees, gardening, but most of all he loved to spend time with his loving family.
William is predeceased by his brothers; John Jr., Stephen, Charles, Martin, Michael, Frank, Paul, Clarence "Larry", Robert, his sisters; Anna Matijas, and Martha Becker.
Mr. Matijas is survived by his loving wife Cynthia of 58 years, his daughters; Romney (James) Noone of Harrisburg, Pa, Lauri Matijas of Annapolis MD, brothers; George of New Hope, Alfred of Moravia, sister Pauline Weeks of Skaneateles, grandchildren William Noone, JT Noone, Tyler Noone, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Wright Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland NY. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Scott United Methodist Church.
Memorial Contributions can be made in Williams' name to the Scott United Methodist Church.
