Thanks for the many memories and lifetime friends developed under your tutelage. Thanks for taking the time to remember all of my family member's names as well as how they were doing.
Your concern for the "Cortland Family" and pride in the "Cortland Community" was always evident. You were "Cortland's Ambassador".
Rest in Peace with Sally, the love of your life. The two of you will always be remembered.

It was always great seeing Coach Wallace come to the field and having his presence amongst the team. His passion for the game never faded throughout the years as I was able to witness during my two years at the university. He was a great man who truly loved the game of baseball and he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wallace family.

I am a freshman on the Cortland Baseball team. I wished I got to know Coach Wallace more as Coach Brown talked so highly of him. I did meet him and could tell he was a special man. We mourn the loss of Coach Wallace as a team. I am sorry to the family for such a loss in not only your family but in the community and the Cortland family.

Saddened this week to learn of Bob's passing. Indeed, a class act. Just a positive, upbeat person. We were onetime Glenn Street neighbors and this summer were fortunate to talk with him at length at his mountaintop home. Two things that may surprise people ....before coming to C-State he was part of an outstanding Colgate freshman football team ....and Bob's first coaching love was football. In fact, he had already taken over Chugger's baseball coaching duties before Chugger left the football scene. Bob very much wanted to succeed Chugger in football but was never interviewed. Seems administrators felt he wouldn't be interested. Guess things worked out okay he quipped. Bob was also quite the fastpitch softball player, having grown up in Syracuse playing the sport, not baseball.
Rest in peace my friend!

I was so sorry to hear that Coach Wallace had passed away. I graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1979; and, I remember both Bob & Sally, very well. They were terrific supporters of SUNY Cortland and also quietly helped many students without desire for fame and recognition. Of course, recognition did come and was very well deserved. RIP Sparky. You will be missed.

Uncle Bob and Aunt Sally would babysit for the three of us in Cortland. They lived right across the street and we loved having them "sit" us. He would always say we were great kids and said we never made a peep. Of course, according to mom and dad, he would turn off his hearing aid so he couldn't hear us anyway. When they were named Brian's "Godparents" in 1970 they were only the 2nd non-Catholic approved Godparents and my parents had to receive permission from the Diocese to allow a priest and nun to fill in for them at the ceremony in Port St. Lucie. Our childhood memories are full of Aunt Sally and Uncle Bob and Cortland. In my heart I know my dad, Bob Maher, was at the Gates of St. Peter waiting for Bob to greet Sally and then sit down to enjoy a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. Peace to all.

I graduated in 1953 from Cortland. Played tackle for Chugger Davis and tried to open some holes for Bob at running back. I have lived in Florida for 41 years and saw Bob @ Sally from time to time when they came south. They were great traveling ambassadors for the institution.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Coach Wallace was a great man as well as a great coach. I was privileged enough to get to know Coach Wallace over my four years of playing baseball at SUNY Cortland under Coach Brown. I also had the opportunity to speak with Coach Wallace many times at our alumni events. He was an iconic figure in the Cortland community as well as in the Cortland baseball family. He achieved so much in his lifetime and has been an honor to get to know Coach Wallace. He set a standard in the Cortland Baseball program that we all strive to achieve.
R.I.P Coach Wallace, you will truly be missed.

Coach,
I am fortunate to have known you and consider you a friend. I enjoyed our talks at the Cortland baseball games. I also enjoyed the time we spent in Florida last spring. Things won’t be the same at “your Field”.
Thank you for everything you did to make Cortland and the world a better place.
