Walt had a profound impact on my life. I first met Walt at Jreck Subs on Tompkins St. when I worked there as a teen. Walt always came in for the $.99 meatball and $.99 tuna subs. He never really said much but was always polite and kind to everyone he encountered. I was always curious about him and rumors flew among the staff there. We heard he drove a limo, that he was a millionaire who lived frugally, you name it. But what I knew, was that he was kind. Years passed and Jreck's closed. I would occasionally see him walking on Tompkins street, aging over the years and slowing in stride. The last few years, I was blessed to reacquaint myself with Walt at the Thanksgiving dinner held by the UMC. I was sad this year that the dinner wasn't held there-I missed seeing all the folks who came. Although he could no longer talk or hear, we communicated through hugs and the written word. I'm so sad to see he's left us but glad he's in glory with God! Thank you Walt-for teaching me kindness.
