Obituary of Wendell Austin

Wendell Austin, 84, of Cortland passed away January 29 2015 at Crown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Wendell came to Cortland in 1967. He had been employed at SUNY Cortland, Cortland YMCA, and Salvation Army. He volunteered at the County Office Building, Loaves and Fishes, and served as Santa Clause for the Country Music Park. Wendell was a member of the Grace Christian Fellowship Church. In his younger years, Wendell could be seen riding his bike around town in the summer and shoveling sidewalks and driveways in the winter. Wendell will be remembered as a kind soul willing to help anyone in need. Wendell leaves behind a city full of friends. He was pre deceased by his sister Esther Holeva, survived by nephew Lee (Mary) and daughter Michelle, also sister Barbara (John) Dubraski, nieces Christa (Todd) Bush, Cara (Tom) Jean and children Riley, Caleigh Jean, Aidan and Ava Bush. A calling hour will be held Saturday 1-2 pm with a memorial service to begin 2 pm at the Grace Christian Fellowship, 1250 Fisher Ave., Cortland NY 13045. Contributions may be made to the Christian Christian Fellowship Church.
