To the Dovi Family,
I was so very sorry to just hear of Joe's sudden passing. I was a classmate of his at SU, student teaching together at West Genesee and playing in the marching band. I remember hearing about Susan when Joe was a junior at SU - he was so in love with her already. I wlll always have a special place in my heart for Joe and his upbeat, positive outlook on life and love. Many, many prayers and thoughts for all of you.

Sue and family - I am very saddened to recently learn of your loss. Joe was an incredible man whom I always looked forward to seeing. Fond memories of Cornell football games and singing in the stands. I will never forget one warm summer night after a party that we decided to continue on and head for Song Lake. We laughed and fished in the boat until the sun came up. Caught several nice bass to boot!! Play on Joe...

You have my sympathy on the loss of your loved one. Please allow God to comfort you through His promise to care for our dead loved ones at John 5:28,29 through the resurrection so that we can be reunited. It's so stressful to deal with the death of a loved one because Death was never supposed to be a part of life so God didn't create us with the ability to be content with this loss but our loving creator, Jehovah God, promises to do away with death {Isaiah 25:8} and the one who causes death Satan{Hebrews 2:14} real soon through His Kingdom in the hands of His Son Christ Jesus so that His purpose for mankind can be realized which is to live on a paradise earth under perfect and peaceful conditions. {Genesis 1:27,28; Psalms 37:9-11,29}

We have many fond memories of Joe, from Cortland High School, where I had the privilege to be one of his music teachers, to the Old Timers' Band, and as a neighbor (and sometimes co-conspirator) at Song Lake. We will always miss him as a fine musician and a good friend.
Our heartfelt condolences to Sue and their children & grandchildren, plus all the rest of the Dovi clan.

We are so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. We have a happy memory that we would like to share. We were at Song Lake a few years ago enjoying the summer evening. Joe stopped at our dock in his motor boat and offered us a ride. We hopped into the boat and Joe took us to the north end of the lake to watch the sunset. As the sun set, Joe moved the boat south on the lake to watch the sunset again and again. Joe taught us that we could watch multiple sunsets in one evening on Song Lake. It was a beautiful experience and enjoyable time with Joe. We hope all of the wonderful memories you have will help sustain you in this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to Sue and the Dovi family. My prayers are with you all. I hope the poem I attached will help you through.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
When tomorrow starts without me,
and I'm not there to see
if the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn't cry,
the way you do each day,
while thinking of the many things,
we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,
please know I'll miss you too.
But when tomorrow starts without me
please try to understand
that an angel came and called my name,
and took me by the hand.
And said a place was ready,
in heaven up above,
and that I'd have to leave behind,
all those I tryly love.
I had so much to live for,
so much yet to do.
It seemd almost impossible
that I was leaving you.
When tomorow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart
for every time you think of me
I'm right here in your heart.

Joe was a wonderful husband, father, musician, and friend. Having known him since childhood, we were often in the same musical groups and had many of the same teachers.
I always admired him for continuing his love of performing. His position as concert master in the Old Timer's Band in Cortland was a chair he upheld with great dignity and respect, always performing at his highest level, becoming an inspiration for his peers and for the new young members of the band. As a friend, he was supportive of my concerts and productions and we shared many (many!) adult beverages afterwards! I will miss his critiques, his laughter, and his joy for life in general. Joe's life is a reminder to us all to spend every minute doing the things we love and sharing those things with others around us. Heaven's band just got a little better.

Dear Susan and family,
Our hearts are heavy following the untimely death of Joe. He certainly had a smile that warmed and welcomed those in his presence. Our last encounter with dear Joe was in summer of 2013 when he came to Tyrone to deliver a picture we thought to be lost.
When we opened the door, surprised to see his smiling face, he said,
"First cousin, Joe Dovi, Cortland." We laughed then and will always carry that memory of his humor with us.
How very sorry we are that he is gone from all who loved him dearly.

Sue & the entire Dovi family,
I can't imagine your sorrow at the unexpected loss of someone so dear, so young. It hardly seems fair and words don't seem to be enough. We have no choice in mourning the loss of Joe's physical presence but he didn't leave us empty. He touched so many and he left us full with his kindness, his music, his integrity, and so many memories so he will never be far from us. Traces of him will linger and make us think of him and smile, or hum a tune, and yes, even cry sometimes. This world is a better place because Joe graced it. As he transitions from this physical place to the next, our tears will be the words of sorrow we just can't express but we will continue to celebrate Joe's life because he was someone who lived it so well. If you believe in signs, you'll find Joe will be there for you whenever you need him. To quote Albert Einstein, "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous." My thoughts are with you all.

My condolences to the family. I worked in the Cortland area for three months, and that was three years ago. During that time I played bass clarinet with OTB. I only got to speak with Joe once or twice during my brief time there, but marveled weekly at his playing. I'm not at all surprised to learn he was a music major. But he was a quiet and humble man. I still remember him so well, especially from marching with him at the St. Anthony's Festival. I am very saddened to learn of his passing, and pray for God's comfort on your family. My Aunt Mary, Joe’s Mom, told me a story that I think of often because it brings me such joy.
Uncle Tony was in hospice at the family home in Cortland. Joe was sleeping in the same room as his Dad on a mattress on the floor. Suddenly a light went on in the room and Joe saw three women standing there. He recognized all three and one was Aunt Mary’s deceased sister Pat who had been a Catholic Nun.
Joe was startled and said, “Are you here to see Dad?”
Sister Pat replied, “Joe your Dad is going to be coming with us.” Uncle Tony died a few hours later.
The vision faded and perhaps it was a strange dream, but Aunt Mary knew her son had been given that amazing gift of knowing death is just a passage. And on the other side are those who have passed before.
Those on this side who love Joe are in mourning but others are in joy of once again being able to hug a very sweet and special man and son. And if it was Joe in Aunt Mary’s story, he would have known all this.
Love to you all.
