Marjorie Merchant, 75, formerly of McGraw, died October 5, 2012 at the Cortland Regional MedicalCenter. She was born Nov. 30, 1936 in East Homer, the daughter of the late Guernsey and Cora Finch Brown. She has been a lifelong resident of the area. Marjorie enjoyed knitting crafts, and was an avid reader. She also provided day care for her many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sons Hubert ( Alice) Merchant Jr., Chauncey (Becky) Merchant, her daughters Jorie Merchant, Marjorie Starkey, Beverly Merchant, Amanda (John) Gaughan, sisters Harriet and Alice, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Hubert in 2010 and several brothers and sisters. A calling hour will be held 1-2 PM Tuesday with a service to begin 2 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Burial will follow at the West HillHomer Cemetery.
