Obituary of Joan Comollo Casey

Joan Comollo Casey, 86, of Cortland, passed away peacefully at her home on April 9, 2015 surrounded by family. The daughter of Amerigo and Grace Clarke Comollo, Joan was born on March 21, 1929 in Greenwich Village, NYC. She came to Cortland in 1946 to attend and graduate from The Cortland State Teachers College, now SUNY Cortland. It was there that she met her future husband, the late James F. Casey Sr.. Together they raised eleven children.
Joan worked for The Cortland County Department of Social Services for ten years retiring in 1994.
She is survived by eight daughters, Maureen (Eugene) Stadelman, Paula (Peter) Cowling, Jessica (Thomas Gebhardt) Casey, Constance (Ricky) Mc Afee, Faith Carr, Erin ( Philip) Potter, Noelle Feint, and Shannon (Robert) Casey- Martin and three sons, James ( Meg Taylor) Casey Jr., Thomas ( Sandra Phipps) Casey, and Anthony Casey. Grandchildren include Paul and Trevor Stadelman, Caitlin (Gabriel) Goodwin, Gemma (Eric) Rinefierd, Natalie (Scott) Oldfield, Celinda (Brian) Metro, Kevin (Cailen) Gebhardt, Morgan (John) Winters, Casey (Thomas) Horton, Jonathan (Dina) McAfee, Megan McAfee, Kristin and Devin Casey, Alex Salvatori, Jordan and Philip Potter, Baylie (Nathan) Connelly, and Brennen Feint. The 18 great-grandchildren are Evan Stadelman, Georgianna and Lucy Goodwin, Mallory and Hugo Rinefierd, Alice and Rowan Oldfield, Oliver Metro, Lily, Jack and Harrison Portorsnok, John and Kellan Winters, Gwyneth and Kathryn Horton, and Kurt, Cecilia and Charlotte Connelly. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Comollo, sister-in-law Eileen Durand as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Joan was pre-deceased by her brother, Robert Comollo, son-in-law Stephen Feint, sisters-in- law Margaret Hatch, Mary McCallen, Catherine Van Donsel, Jane Casey and Sally Walpole, brothers-in-law Edward and Patrick Casey.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-7 at the Wright Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 11 am at St. Mary's Church, Cortland. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
