Obituary of Donald N. Osbeck

Donald N. Osbeck passed away in Zephyrhills, FL on April 20, 2015. He was born in Cortland on September 25, 1927 to Murl and Julia (Reakes) Osbeck and grew up on the Osbeck family farm in South Cortland, which is now home to the Byrne Dairy Yogurt Complex. Thank you Byrne Dairy for the saving part of the family history. After graduating from Virgil HS, he served his country in the NAVY and was stationed at Midway Island. After his time in the service, he came home and started his career in dairy farming. Don was a member of the Moose Club and VFW, served on the Virgil Town Board and Virgil Fire Dept. as well as a longtime member of the ASCS committee. He was an avid card player, bowler and golfer. After retiring from farming, Don and Charlotte were able to spend the winters in Florida and Little York Lake in the summer.
Don is survived by his wife of 50 years Charlotte (Knapp) Osbeck, brother and sister-in-law Dick and Phyllis Osbeck, Sister Emily VanGorder and sister-in-law Vera Osbeck. Children Thomas and Anna Osbeck of NV, Janet and Bob Warner, Judy Grago of PA, Jon Ingersoll (Debbie Cinquenti) and Sue and Ron Clark. Grandchildren Jill Haines (Jeff Quaile), Abby and Kris Homer, Christie and Chris Bucher, Barbara Clark, Mirissa Grago, Sunshine Ingersoll and Sam Ingersoll, as well as 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Don is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Leonard and David Osbeck, a brother-in-law Darrell VanGorder and son-in-law Bill Grago.
A calling hour will held on Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland NY 13045, with a celebration of life to begin at 2:00 P.M.
