Obituary of John Michael Elliott

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John was born April 7, 1984 to Diana Robinson and Michael Elliott in San Diego, CA. He died on September 1, 2015 at the home he shared with his Aunt Karen Robinson in Virgil, NY. He grew up with his mother in the Vernon, NY area where his first loving community formed. He graduated from VVS Central School, Verona, NY in 2002 and then enlisted in the US Army; selected for Diving School and attended AIT in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. A training injury resulted in an early Honorable Discharge. John moved to Seattle, WA, enrolled in college and became a certified commercial diver. This career took him to oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, bridges in the Florida Keys and other locations in the Southeast US. He then moved to Maryland, his second home and another close community where he lived for over 10 years. He continued to develop his passion for Life and Science attending CCBC College and became an active Alternative and Sustainable Energy Entrepreneur. John moved to Cortland, NY in 2013. He spent his last years living, loving and growing with his Aunt Karen and many friends in Upstate NY where he became actively involved in sustainable farming, music and other earth friendly things. John was a great friend, deep thinker, inspired learner, passionate teacher and hard worker, joyfully engaged in music (from every angle, listening, playing, writing) and science (of the most esoteric and brilliant sort). Most notably, John had a deep and fulfilling relationship with the “natural” world of woods, water, the sky and all critters in them. He will be remembered for supporting and encouraging a world of communities where everyone just knew and did “the right thing” for each other. He had a glorious and clear interpretation and vision of what that was; a place where each person's experiences centered on love, health, trust, respect, learning, music and a relationship with the Earth that enriched and healed. John's beloved Mother, Diana L. Robinson passed in February, 2015 and they are now united in joy! He is survived by his father Michael (Yvonne) Elliott of Seattle, Grandfather Donald Johnson and children; John's Aunts and Uncles, Jennifer, Jeffery, Susan, Margaret, Mary and David, Aunt Karen Robinson of Virgil, her daughter “Cuz” Paige Burleigh Hopkins (husband Ben & son Sebastian) of Morrow GA, Uncle Gregor and Aunt Melodie Robinson and their daughters Missy and Monica of Munnsville NY area, John's “Always Mother”, Karima Charrat of Cockeysville, Maryland and an extensive caring community of loved ones near and far including Joe Pullman, Cora Schroeder and many others too numerous to name. Please join us as we celebrate John's spirit, generosity, humanity and passions at a gathering of music and memories on September 26th, at Center for the Arts of Homer, 72 S.
