Roberta Lou Allington, 79, longtime resident of the Groton area passed away December 3, 2015 at Hope Hospice, Lehigh Acres, Fl. She was born September 9, 1936 in Elmira NY, the daughter of the late James and Rowena McIntire Brown.
Mrs. Allington was raised and educated in Elmira where she graduated high school. She had resided in Cortland from 1960 until 1964, then relocated to Groton where she resided until 2014. Roberta had been employed at Smith Corona, Great American Supermarket, and most recently the Shur Fine food mart where she retired from. Her family will cherish her memory as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling at Cort-Lanes and volunteering at the Groton Sr. Center. She was an avid walker, walking 3-5 miles a day.
She is survived by her sons Everett (Karen) Allington Jr. of N. Ft. Myers Fl., Joe (Debbie) Allington of Ft. Myers Fl., her daughter Terri (Keith) Lattin of Cleveland NC, her brother James Brown of PA, her sister Marjorie Sims of Groton NY, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Everett Allington Sr., her son Lamont Allington, her siblings Jack Brown, Arlena Brown, Chuck Brown, and twin brother Robert Brown that died in the Vietnam War.
A calling hour will be Wednesday 12-1 pm at the Groton Assembly of God Church, 701 S. Main St., Groton NY. Burial will be at the McLean Cemetery. The Wright-Beard Funeral Home of Cortland is serving the family.
