David Blatchley, 73, of Cortland, passed away December 14th, 2015 with family by his side. He was born June 4th, 1942 in Montour Falls, NY, the son of the late Robert P. Blatchley and Alice Pitcher Blatchley. David was a graduate of Virgil High School, attended SUNY Cortland where he received his bachelor's degree, and Syracuse University where he obtained his master's degree. David was Director of Communications at the Syracuse Developmental Center, as well as a Wedding and Freelance Photographer at Blatchley Enterprises. He was president of the Cortland Chapter of the Jaycee's and a J.C.I. Senator. David was also a board member and photographer for both the Cortland Repertory Theatre and Cultural Council of Cortland Co., and was instrumental in developing the Cortland Arts and Wine Festival. David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Hines Blatchley, daughter Caitlin (Chad) Dehoff, son Rob (Heather) Blatchley, grandsons, Carson, Calvin, Collin and Aven, sisters Margaret (Thomas) Davis, Diana Pitcher, Susan (Irving) Epstein and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 20th, 2015 from 2-4 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 5 pm at the "New" Cortland Repertory Theater, 24 Port Watson St., Cortland NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cortland Repertory Theater, 24 Port Watson St., Cortland NY, 13045 or the Cultural Council of Cortland Co., 110 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY 13045.
