Alton C. Robbins, 91, of 124 Port Watson St. Commons passed away on Friday, September 07, 2012.Born on February 14, 1921, in Truxton, NY, Alton was the son of the late Florence & Caleb Robbins.Alton was predeceased by his sisters Ethel Davis McMullen, Marion Szulewski Nelson, and Frances Phelps as well as his brothers Edward, Milton (twin brother to Alton) and Stanley.Alton worked for 33 years at Brockway Motor Trucks. After retirement, he worked as a courier at Cortland Savings Bank.Before marrying, Alton worked on the Family Farm in Truxton, NY and later at the Cintilla Airplane Factory in Sidney, NY.Alton was a founding member of the Cortland Moose Club and also was an active member of the Eagles (Cortland), the Homer Elks (Homer), and the Albright Grange (East Homer).He enjoyed making crafts (most notably the Marble game everyone loved), playing a round of cribbage with his son, being a Stage Manager for Shirley Wombles Dance Studio (watching his girls dance on stage), definitely dancing with his wife in the Seven Valley Whirl-A-Ways, and especially enjoyed spending summers with his family at their cottage on DeRuyter Lake.Alton was also a volunteer firefighter for many years.Alton is survived by his wife of 69 years, Pauline Calerio, his son Ronald (Jennifer), his daughters Christine (Jerry) Gillette and Mary Ann (William) Peck, his brother Benjamin (josephine), his grandchildren David, Kelly, Patrick, Joey, Tommy, Kristi, Brian & Maureen, and his great grandchild Davi Marie.Calling hours will be from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, September 10th at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland.Services will be held at 11am at St. Anthonys Church on Pomeroy St.Contributions can be made to the Albright Grange in East Homer.
