To my long lost friend, Irene. I met Irene at the Millbrook store on Tompkins St. way back in the 80s. She used to come in to buy the older bread for her ducks, chickens, peacock. When the store was quiet, we would talk and talk about anything and everything. One time a duck of my own had ducklings but all lost their lives to a snapping turtle in a nearby pond, all except Lucky. Lucky was lonely though, and I asked Irene if she could take her. We were friends ever since. We talked on the phone a lot, and I enjoyed our conversations. I remember she liked country music, I think especially the Oakridge Boys. I moved to Myrtle Beach years ago and we got out of touch with each other. Sadly, I did recently (probably 3 wks ago) tried to reach her. I have a Cortland phone book, saw her name still on Glenwood. I didn't get an answer, but left a message. I was so sorry to see she had passed when I looked at the Cortland Standard on the internet. I will always have fond memories and never forget her. I wish I would have looked her up a long time ago. So those with dear friends you haven't talked to in years, please take a moment to call them or send a note to say hi. Love you Irene.
