Obituary of Genevieve L. Martin

Genevieve L. Martin 97, passed away February 6, 2016 at home with her family by her side. Genevieve was born November 24, 1918 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Hardey. Gen lived a long and productive life, starting as an assembler in the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company in Endicott, NY, she later worked with her husband on a dairy farm in Marathon, NY, tending to housework chores, carrying milk, raising calves, along with an occasional task of unloading bales of hay off wagons. After retirement , she maintained their home in Cortlandville,NY where she faithfully kept a vegetable garden, canned produced tomatoes, along with maintaining flower gardens: Roses were her specialty, No one entered her home without having a meal: or one of her many cookies or pies. She also enjoyed visits and talks with 2 special sister in laws: Laura (Jon) Palmatier in Binghamton, NY and Dorothy (Francis) Downes of Oregon. Gen is survived by a daughter Barbara E. Allen of Virgil, NY a son Maurice (Connie) Martin of Lafayette, La, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren in Louisiana, Two special nieces Lorraine (Richard) Chadwick of Endicott, NY and Nancy (Rick) Grose of Greenville, NC: and a special nephew: Wayne (Mary) Hardey of Dallas TX, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parent she was predeceased by her husband David Martin, and son Dennis, a brother Richard (Marjorie) and a sister Helen. The family would like to thank the emergency unit, and the 2c floor at Cortland Regional Medical Center for all the help provided. A special heart-felt thanks to her primary care doctor Cindy Johnson and her staff for all the caring services that were provided to her. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland. Interment will be in Marathon cemetery. At Gen’s request there are no calling hours.
