Richard B. (Dick) Letts , 91, passed away March 31, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born October 26, 1924, in Cortland NY where he remained a lifelong resident.
Dick was predeceased by his parents Boyd and Althea Letts, wife Barbara Ann Letts, daughter Shera Ann Nobles, and brother Boyd T. “Bee” Letts Jr.
Dick is survived by his son, Stephen Letts of Cortland. He is also survived by his son in law Mickey Nobles of Cortland, granddaughters Jill Ann Letts of New York, NY, Lisa (Dave) DePuy of Manlius, NY, and Kristin Nobles of Los Angeles, CA. He also leaves behind four great grandchildren: Allison, Jace, and Alex DePuy of Manlius, NY and Samantha Jones of Los Angeles, CA.
Dick was a 1942 graduate of Cortland High School. From there, he attended Colgate University and then went on to work alongside his father and brother running several family owned local gas stations. The trio moved to LF Letts & Sons on Tompkins St. where Dick ultimately retired after 50 years.
Dick enjoyed many social activities. He was a longtime member of the Cortland Elks Club, he participated in University Club, and he was a past president of the Cortland Exchange Club. Additionally, he served as Legislator of the 12th District for one term. One of Dick’s favorite pastimes was traveling and boating with his friends, especially Roger & Shirley Batchelder and Al & Barb King.
At Dick’s request, there will be a private family service at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave.
The family would like to thank both the Cortland Regional Medical Center and the Groton Community Healthcare Center for their compassion in treating and rehabilitating our beloved father/father in law/ grandfather.
