Donald W. Pickett Jr., 65, of Cortland, passed away unexpectedly August 27, 2012.
He was raised on a farm in Sempronius NY, son of the late Donald and Marita Thompson Pickett Sr.
Don was a long time resident of the area graduating from Moravia High School where he played football. As a young man he was interested in drag racing and bowling.
Don began working at Smith Corona where he began an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. He then went onto work at Rubber Maid, New Process Gear, and was currently working at Swarthout Coaches and Enterprise car rental. He took great pride and enjoyment at work. Don loved travelling to Aruba, spending time with friends on fishing trips, and entertaining family and friends poolside. All who knew him appreciated his contagious sense of humor and love for life!
He is survived by his wife of 27 yrs. Danielle Pickett, his sons Donald (Amy) Pickett III, Robert Pickett, Timothy Pickett, Tommy (Debra) Stephens, his daughter Sharon Brasher, his brothers Dean (Kay) Pickett, Scott (Nita) Pickett, his sisters Allison (Chris) Welsh, Debra (Ronald) Knight, Terri Hay, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday 10-11:45 am with a memorial service to begin 12 noon at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave. , Cortland NY. Burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Homer NY.
