Gordon “Dale” Munn, 86 of Cortland NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 12, 2016.
He was born March 23rd, 1930 in Smithboro, NY the son of Harry G and Ethel Rogers Munn.
A proud Korean War Vet, he was a past Commander of the Cortland VFW, and was currently their Quartermaster.
He joined the Army in September 1947. After serving in Seoul Korea, he returned to Fort Sill Ok as a Cpl. in the MP’s. He met his wife Mary Rosser Munn and were married for 60 years prior to her passing in September 2011. He worked for many years at Sun Pine Line Company, and Cortland Waste Water Treatment Plant. They returned to Oklahoma for a time where he worked on Tinker Air Force base. After retiring they moved back to NY where he worked for the Village of Homer at the Homer fire Dept and the Homer Police Office.
He was an active communicant of St Margaret’s Church, Homer NY. A member and Past Commander of the VFW Post 2354, past Exalted Ruler of the Cortland Elks and current member of the Homer Elks Club. He was also a member of the Homer American Legion Burns-McCauliffe Post 465.
He was predeceased by his parents, siblings and their spouses Lucille (Halsey) McConnell, Elinor (Harry) Coates, Jane (Donald) Glover, Gary (Arlene) Munn, and his loving wife, Mary Rosser Munn.
He is survived by his five children, Sherrye (Donnie) Cook, Caledonia NY, Lori (John) Burns, Cortland, April (John) Calale, Homer, Gil Munn, Lake Dallas, TX, and Brett (Peggy) Munn, Fabius, NY. He was known affectionately to is 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchild as “Beepa”, they are Alissa (Felix) Medero, Corrye (Megan) VanCaeseele-Cook, Casey(Tammy Genovese) Burns,
Kassidy (David) Ryan, Kellen Calale, Nickie (Derek) Fredenburg, Brittany (Kyle) McCown, Dylan Calale, and Connor (Briahana) Munn. Noon, Matthew and Sophie Medero, Quentyn VanCaeseele-Cook, Liam and Natalie Burns, Aubrie Ryan, Molly and Mila Fredenburg, Kaya and Ophelia McCown. He is also survived by a loving companion, “Ruthie” Phelps and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY 13045 Friday April 15th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 am at St Margaret’s Church 14 Copeland Ave, Homer NY. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer NY
