James R. Brown Sr., 78, of Pitcher, NY, passed away on Wednesday July 6th in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
Wright Beard in Cortland, NY will be handling the funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held at Wright Beard on Sunday July 10th from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be held at Wright Beard on Monday July 11th at 11 am with Reverend Jeanne Angell officiating. Burial will follow at Pitcher Congregational Church Cemetery , Pitcher, NY.
Jim was born in Pitcher, NY to Dennison and Ruth(Betsy)Ufford Brown on August 7, 1937. He attended McGraw High School. His working years consisted of trucking and mechanics in one form or another. His passion for trucking filled his work life with joy and contentment. Jim worked most of his life driving and working for others but his latest and most fulfilling adventure was his trucking company, James R. Brown Trucking.
Jim enjoyed riding his motorcycles, watching trains, and attending the annual Brockway show in Cortland, NY. He also developed a sympathetic love and flair for caring for homeless and stray cats.
Jim is survived by his long time loving companion Joan Brayton, of Cortland, NY. Children Nancy (Jerry) Truman of Cortland, NY, Cathy Chilson of Cortland, NY, Betsy (Joseph) Faucher of Pitcher, NY, James R. Brown Jr. of Pitcher, NY, Teri (Steven) Wood of South Otselic, NY, and Kevin (Lori) Brayton of Rochester, NY (son of Joan). Grandchildren Michael Truman, Sabrina (Truman) Larsen, Amy (Chilson) Vargeson, Becky Chilson, Levi Chilson, Chris Brown, Cole Stafford, Jess (Wood) Christy, Amber (Wood) Roberts and several great-grandchildren. A sister, Sandi (Ed) Quinn of Marathon, NY and a brother, Lee (Cindy) Bement of Pitcher, NY, a niece, two nephews and several cousins.
Jim is preceded in death by his father Dennison Brown, mother Ruth (Betsy) Ufford/Brown, and second mother Joyce Brown.
