Obituary of Shirley I. Broker

Shirley I. (Krewson) Broker was born on November 27, 1924 in Tully, NY. She passed away peacefully on July 8, 2016, at Upstate Hospital, Syracuse. She was the daughter of the late Gladys (Wilcox) Krewson and Henry Krewson. Shirley was married to the late Richard Joseph Broker. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Daniel Richard. Her surviving children are Eric Broker (Connie), Valerie Broker Galante, daughter-in-law, Valerie Fitch Broker, grandchildren, James Broker (Diana), Scott Broker (Melissa), Erica Broker, Joseph Broker (Cayce), Matthew Broker (Stacy), Marisa (Galante) Austin, and eleven great grandchildren. Shirley had been employed by the Cortland Savings Bank for 22 years where she held numerous positions-including student loans, insurances and was also the secretary for the Board of the Bank. Shirley was the President of the Upper NY State Women's Bankers' Association. For many years she was very active in the First Baptist Church of Cortland, and later –the United Community Church. Having graduated from Cortland High School in 1942, she had continued to be involved in all the class reunions. Not only was she the tennis coach for the High School, briefly-she was the person, along with Principal John Gee, who made it possible for senior classes to graduate at the SUNY Cortland facilities. Traveling with family and friends was a true enjoyment for her. Calling hours will be at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045 Wednesday July 13, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday July 14, at 11 am at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, with burial in Tully immediately following the service. Donations may be made in her name to St. Joseph's Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, South Dakota 57326. She was particularly proud of Native American heritage.
