Obituary of Marjorie H. Curtis

Marjorie H. Curtis, of Cortland, N.Y. passed away on July 18, 2016 at the Cortland Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Marjorie was born August 14, 1920 in Cortland, NY to the late Fred and Alice Swinyard Glover and was a 1938 graduate of Cortland High School. Before her retirement in 1962 she was employed by the Cortland County Treasurer’s Office as Deputy County Treasurer and the City’s Finance Office as Deputy Director of Finance and Administration.
Marjorie and her husband, David Curtis, spent winters in Zephyrhills, Florida and summers in Alexandra Bay and Cortland, NY. She was a member and former president of the Cortland American Legion Auxiliary #489 and a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and National Secretary’s Club. She was also a former member of the Cortland 3W Firemen’s Auxiliary and an active member of the Loyal Circle of the International Order of King’s Daughters and sons.
Marjorie is survived by a son, William (Leilani) White of DeRuyter, daughters, Nancy (Ronald) Sickmon of Cortland and Judy (Steven) Kern of Lansing. Two step-sons, Wayne Curtis of Cortland and David K. Curtis of Virginia, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren with another great grandson due in September. Also special family members nieces, Sue (William) Mitchinson, Kathy (Edward) Mead, nephew, Donel (Maggie) O’Hara and Brian (Pam) White of Webster. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at the lake or “the river.” She was predeceased by her husband, David D. Curtis, her first husband, Ivan E. White, her parents, and her sister, Alice O’Hara .
Funeral Services will be held Wed at 12:00 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave.
Friends are invited to call from 10:00 am to 11:45 am prior to the service .
interment will follow in Cortland Rural Cemetery
