Russell E. Knecht, 75, of McGraw passed away Monday at Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 27, 1936 in Solon, the son of the late Leo and Viva Hyer Knecht. He has been a lifelong resident of the area. Russell attended McGraw High School. He then went on to own and operate Knecht Service Station. His hobbies included hunting a love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and his pets. Russell is survived by his wife Jane of 52 years, son Robert (Laurie) of Cortland, grandchildren Jason, joshua and Dillon nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey and brother Keith. A memorial service will be held Friday 4 PM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. A calling hour will be held 3-4 prior. Interment will be in McGraw Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In Lieu of flowers contributions in Russells name may be directed to the Cortland Co. SPCA, 879 McLean Rd., Cortland.
